Cloud Forest Beetle

Cloud Forest Beetle
An unidentified bug living on the windy and wet mountain ridge.

Update 2004: I did a little Googling and found an authority. I contacted Frank Hovore, who has studied beetles in Monteverde. He had this to say:

"That is the spectacular and relatively very rare (except at Monteverde) Plagiohammus pollinosus (Bates) (Cerambycidae; Lamiinae; Lamiini). The larval biology is unknown, but most species in the genus bore in the stems of woody shrubs. It is attracted to lights at the reserve HQ from June through September. The type locality, from which it was described by Henry Walter Bates in 1880, is "Rio Sucio", probably within what is now Braulio Carrillo park."
